Rotated buildings, horizontal rotation of surfaces

The perspective principle of convergence reminds us that every set of parallel lines will generate its own vanishing point.

Gérard’s beautifully detailed piazza sketch shows a series of building faces that are not parallel to each other, so each facade generates its own VP!

When buildings are rotated or skewed in plan, as they often are in older cities that were not built on a grid, you will likely find multiple vanishing points along your eye-level line. Think of this as surfaces that are sort of twisting horizontally to remember that the VPs move along your eye-level line.

Remember: When buildings are skewed or rotated in plan, their vanishing points will shift left or right horizontally along your eye-level line.
